Snoring, poor sleep, head and neck pain are all symptoms linked to breathing disordered sleep. If left untreated, these problems can worsen over time.

Myosa® for BDS

Breathing Disordered Sleep (BDS)

Breathing Disordered Sleep (BDS) is now recognised as a major cause of many health and dental problems. It often stems from underdeveloped jaws, dysfunctional breathing patterns, and poor muscle habits, all of which should be addressed when being treated.

BDS often begins in childhood as mouth breathing and poor oral habits. When breathing through the mouth, the tongue drops down away from the roof of the mouth, leading to abnormal swallowing. This puts pressure on the jaw joints and can trigger clicking, locking, and muscle inflammation. Over time, mouth breathing weakens airway muscles, restricts jaw growth, and contributes to airway collapse during sleep. Sleep related breathing disorders are also known to cause a variety of mental, physical and dental issues.

Conventional treatments such as CPAP and MADs may offer symptom relief, but don't address the underlying causes. Many CPAP patients also stop use due to discomfort and inconvenience, while MADs can damage the jaw joint and cause misalignment.

Myosa® provides a safe, effective and sustainable solution that focuses on treating the root causes of BDS, rather than just the symptoms.

How it Works

Myosa® addresses the symptoms associated with BDS such as snoring, poor sleep, head and neck pain as well as the underlying breathing and muscle problems. The appliances work by repositioning the lower jaw to open the airway, improve tongue posture and oral muscle function while also encouraging nasal breathing.

Myosa® appliances are worn for 1–2 hours daily and overnight while sleeping. Myosa® Activities and Myotalea® appliances further assist in strengthening oral and airway muscles to reduce collapse during sleep.

Treatment journey

A typical first phase lasts 6 months, after which your practitioner will review progress and recommend the next steps. If dental or further breathing improvements are desired, your treating practitioner may recommend Myobrace® or Myoretainr® treatment solutions by MRC.

While no treatment can promise complete relief, the Myosa® treatment targets the root causes of BDS, helping you achieve lasting improvement.

Take our online assessment to determine whether BDS treatment may be suitable for you, or contact us to help you find your nearest Myosa® practitioner.
